Don't get me wrong. Flying standby is a great perk and can save you a lot of money in the long run. However there is a lot of room for things to mess up. In just my trip to Galway Ireland for my study abroad this summer I have had several mishaps. It took four flights for me to finally make in from St. Louis to Atlanta. The flights to Dublin were full so I had to go to Heathrow instead. My check in bag stayed in Atlanta this whole time however so we told the airport officials to get the bag to Dublin today morning so I could just pick it up. I then spent the next 8 hours on trains and ferries getting from London to Dublin. Now I find that my bag is in London. It has been just the first 3 days of the summer and already a lot has happened.
